Fins up! Minto Communities-USA and Latitude Margaritaville Hilton Head have arrived in the Lowcountry and this resort-style 55+ community has attracted homebuyers from around the country in search of that “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere” lifestyle.
The Greenery has been working with Latitude Margaritaville Hilton Head to provide landscape and hardscape construction and landscape management since its inception in 2018. To gain that “no-worries vibe” coastal environment, a great deal of planning and execution has taken place to create a Buffet-style paradise right here in the Lowcountry. Phases I and II are scheduled for completion in 2020.
When those phases are complete, The Greenery will have installed over:
- 2,000 specialty and native palms
- 750 over-story shade trees
- 750 flowering trees
- 80,000 flowering shrubs, grasses and ground covers
- 1.5 million sq. ft. of sodded turn
- 2.5 million sq. ft. of irrigated and planted areas
Approximately 20-30% of the plant materials that The Greenery has installed are native to our geographic area. We worked closely with the Minto Communities-USA design team to install plant materials that are sustainable to the Lowcountry while keeping the overall tropical look and integrity of the Latitude Margaritaville brand.
The design process has been very specific. The Greenery must meet and maintain building requirements that have been set by Margaritaville designers, with input from Jimmy Buffet himself! When the installation is complete, the next step will include ongoing maintenance of the property.
“There is a balancing act of meeting set specifications for the community, with regard to the tropical look and theme, plus dealing with the effects that our weather has on the plants,” described Miles Graves, The Greenery’s Regional Manager for this area. “We will rotate a variety of annuals, which will adjust better to our changing temperatures. Plans have also been made for our Lowcountry’s climate surprises, including hurricanes and last year’s 2018 unusual snow storm.”
The Greenery construction division is responsible for the installation and building of all landscaping, including common grounds and homes. When the entire development is completed, Latitude Margaritaville will encompass 3,000 single-family homes, a retail center, tennis and pickleball courts, indoor and outdoor dining areas, plus a variety of resort-style amenities. Margaritaville is one of the larger contracts by acreage maintained by The Greenery.
“A team of full time skilled landscape maintenance personnel work on site every day. Not only do they need to do the routine maintenance of mowing and pruning, but they perform specialized work such as landscape lighting checks, palm tree pruning, furniture cleaning and even beach raking,” says Graves.
With phase one of Margaritaville underway, The Greenery has a great deal of work ahead to complete and maintain the property’s 2,700 acres. This project is a testament to The Greenery’s ability to adapt and maintain large scale projects based on each client’s specific needs.
Like we always do, The Greenery is going the extra mile to make sure Margaritaville’s landscape is exactly what the homebuyers are looking for…because we wouldn’t want our hand-picked, carefully chosen plants, flowers, trees and sod “just wastin’ away” in Margaritaville…
