With the belief that you can make a difference when you go the distance, 38 “every day heroes” from The Greenery participated in the 2018 Torch Relay on Hilton Head for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The event was held on Friday, November 2nd, with hundreds of participants and dozens of teams from the area running and walking to raise funds.
Congratulations are in order for the top 3 finishers of the 5K race – all 3 are employee-owners of The Greenery! First place went to Daniel Mendoza from the Palmetto Bluff Branch. Daniel has been a Crew Leader with The Greenery for the past 10+ years. He has won this race several years in a row! Second place went to Kian Lauth from the Sun City Branch. Kian started in our college internship program a few years ago and is now an Account Manager. Finally, Third place went to Chris Pittman from the Bluffton/Hardeeville Branch. Chris is new to the Greenery as an Account Manager.
The event raised more than $60,000 which will directly benefit the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital at MUSC.
Over the last twelve years, the Torch Relay has raised over $14.1 million nationally in support of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, like the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina. The Torch Relay began in 2002 as a continuous relay starting in Miami, Florida and ending in Orlando, Florida. Over the past several years, the Torch Relay has expanded to more cities and has raised funds to touch the lives of children in need of life-saving medical care. It is an all-volunteer organization that is supported by generous corporate sponsors, and funds directly benefit the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in the city where they were raised.
Of the team from The Greenery, CEO Lee Edwards said, “Every dollar raised makes a difference in the lives of sick children at CMN Hospitals. We are proud to sponsor a team at the annual event.”
